15.1.2019 Sanddorn Balance by Rigolo at Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain
Sanddorn Balance by Rigolo at 40th Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain in Paris (Jan 31 - Feb 3)! Don't miss Mäadir's youngest daughter Marula who will present Sanddorn Balance at this most important festival of modern circus arts.
The extraordinary success story of SANDDORN BALANCE began more than 20 years ago. In 1996, the Swiss theatre producer Mädir Eugster Rigolo created a balancing act for the stage production SANDDORN. The play is set in knee-deep sand; the only props are the withered ribs of date and coconut palm leaves, which Mädir Eugster Rigolo collected from the most beautiful beaches in the world. This was the birth of SANDDORN BALANCE – one of the most stunning acts the world has ever seen. SANDDORN BALANCE has enchanted countless audiences ever since, irrespective of culture, age or education. The performance can been seen in a variety of shows and circuses, in theatres, museums and opera houses. For many years, Mädir Eugster Rigolo was the only performer. Only a few years ago, the secret of SANDDORN BALANCE was given to some excellent artists who are now presenting exciting moments to audiences all over the world. Among these excellent artists, you will find Mädir's daughters: Lara Jacobs Rigolo, who is performing Sandorn Balance with Cirque du Soleil show Amaluna, and lately also Marula Eugster Rigolo, who performed Sanddorn Balance in Rigolo's stage Wings and now - in Jan 2019 - arrives to the stage of Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain where young artists from all over the world present their arts and acts. Probably is not just a coincidence that the 40th Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain meets the celebrations of Rigolo's 40th anniversary.
2.10.2018 Sanddorn Balance at LaMama, New York
Rigolo's Sanddorn Balance is wellknown worldwide for its appearances in cabaret, show, TV and gala events. but we should not forget that Sanddorn Balance was created as scene of a theatre play. More and more, Sanddorn Balance is returning back to its roots and we note a growing distribution in dance and theatre productions, invitations to concerts and exhibitions. One example is Rigolo's participation in the theatre play "Exodus" by Belgian company Théâtre d'un Jour. "Exodus" is invited now to LaMama Theatre in New York.
"Exodus" is a stirring play about migration and the hopelessness that drives people to leave their homeland. Sanddorn Balance shows in Exodus moments of a fragile beauty that changes the perception of reality and reveals the delicate nature of balance and the transience of life.
"Exodus" ist ein aufwühlendes Theaterstück über Migration und die Ausweglosigkeit, die Menschen dazu bewegt, ihre Heimat zu verlassen. Die Sanddorn Balance zeigt in "Exodus" Momente einer fragilen Schönheit, die die Wahrnehmung der Realität verändert und die zarte Natur des Gleichgewichts und der Vergänglichkeit des Lebens offenbart. A disturbing symbol for the current situation of the refugees in front of the "Fortress Europe". After almost 100 performances in Europe, "Exodus" is now invited to New York, appearances there at LaMama November 15 - 18.
all around the world
With thirteen palm leaf ribs, the Swiss artist Mädir Rigolo creates an oasis of concentration and serenity, a place of equilibrium; fragile moments of joy that, barely created, are destroyed by the artist himself. Sanddorn Balance is successful on theatre stages, at museums and exhibitions. Sanddorn Balance is often invited to underline architecture or to give a special touch to non-theatre-venues. Sanddorn Balance can also be an integral part of cabaret and show productions such as a celebrated highlight at special events of different kinds.
The extraordinary success story of Sanddorn Balance began over 20 years ago. In 1996, the Swiss theatre producer Mädir Rigolo creates a balancing act for the stage production Sanddorn. The play is set in knee-deep sand; the only props are the withered ribs of date and coconut palm leaves, which Mädir Rigolo collected from the most beautiful beaches in the world. It will take years to draw the attention of vaudeville and circus producers. One of the first show producers inviting Sanddorn Balance is André Heller who wants Sanddorn Balance to become part of his show Magnifico. Thus the worldwide success is set in motion. Today, whether it’s in Australia, the US, Japan or Europe; if it’s in a theatre, cabaret, or tent; on Broadway, at the Cirque du Soleil or in museums, at selected galas and exhibitions; in front of an audience consisting of several thousands of people or just a few hundred, the Sanddorn Balance touches audiences and the media and has received the highest praise.
In this moment of highest public attention Mädir Rigolo takes the decision, to transfer his art to some excellent talents. These successors bear the name Rigolo with proud. They guard the art of Sanddorn Balance, develop it and give it a life of its own. Sanddorn Balance has many secrets and every single performer can draw one and present it in his own way. Mädir Rigolo himself is focussing his appearances on those in the museum context or architectonical environments or selected captures for movies and videos. Besides Sanddorn Balance, Mädir Rigolo dedicates himself to the creation and development of new stunning stage objects.
Mädir Rigolo and Lena Roth found Rigolo Swiss Nouveau Cirque in 1978. As a living experiment, Rigolo strives to create a union of dance theatre, acrobatics, art, music and brilliant décor in its productions. At Rigolo, visitors are spirited away into a forgotten world that only observes its own rules, a world in which mythical and archaic ideas are revealed in new and mysterious ways.
