2.1.2021  Juian Vogel proudly presents his new website ... please have a look!

Since today it is online: The new website of Julian Vogel! So if you want to know what's new from CHINA SERIES, please visit: https://julianvogel.ch and you will see current developments, videos, calendar and many additional info.

mehr...

CHINA SERIES is an interdisciplinary project by Swiss artist Julian Vogel (*1990, Lucerne) , in which contemporary performance, installation, circus, dance and sculpture combine to form a multi-layered whole. His starting point is the diabolo: two half bowls connected by an axis. But the artist robs the diabolo of its original form or materiality by forming countless new diabolos, not from plastic, but from fragile ceramics, found dishes, for example. Julian Vogel sees the ongoing series of works as a constantly growing research laboratory. The various, sometimes unusual formats interact with the surroundings and the visitors, creating unusual spaces of experience. CHINA SERIES will be shown at festivals starting in summer 2021.

122 x 244 - Klub Girko

8.8.2020  on tour : Festival ATOLL in Karlsruhe

Klub Girko presents its play "122 x 244 - and a lot of little pieces" at festival ATOLL Karlsruhe, on Sunday, Sept 20 - two times in one day!

Lighter doesn’t necessarily mean easier, even though it seems so.

mehr...

Two persons, one format, wood – in this circus-theatre performance two artists investigate the metamorphosis of this relentless but gentle material in relation to themselves. Whilst discovering the balance, with objects and on objects, they find themselves in various situations of dependency and trust, power and sensitivity in between flying sticks and floating planks.

The ATOLL Festival for Contemporary Circus takes place for the fifth time this year. It is one of the few festivals in Europe devoted exclusively to this genre, and in these few years it has become one of the trend-setting festivals on the scene. This year it has been shortened by one day, with less audience, but at a corona-like distance, with slightly fewer artists than last year and largely without circus tents, but with a programme that is certainly worth seeing, as we think.

WORK - Cie Claudio Stellato

5.8.2020  German premiere of WORK by Claudio Stellato at festival ATOLL Karlsruhe

At the ATOLL festival (Karlsruhe, Germany) Claudio Stellato presents the next stage of his research between body and object as a German premiere: WORK. Nails, wood, paint, a few tools and seemingly trivial, everyday gestures characterize the scene. This is where work is done, no question.

mehr...

As if they were following assembly instructions of a parallel universe, the characters work in a machinery in which everyone fulfils his or her function. But excessive physical exertion, which can lead to exhaustion, leads to strange results. While the simple and astonishing stage design is changing more and more, the complicated and absurd process of creating a work of art unfolds.

On 25 and 26 September in Karlsruhe ...

The ATOLL Festival takes place for the fifth time this year and is considered one of the trend-setting festivals for contemporary circus in Germany. Although shortened by one day, with less audience, but at a corona-like distance, with slightly fewer artists than last year and largely without circus tents, but with a programme that is certainly worth seeing.

The Great Journey - Theater Anu

5.8.2020  adapted to Corona: The Great Journey by Theater Anu will be performed at Tempelhofer Feld

It feels wonderful! Theater Anu have managed to redesign the performance The Great Journey that it can be performed under the recent restrictions. Slightly fewer spectators, seats, guided tour in small groups - but the visitors still wander through a labyrinth of thousands of candles and are enchanted by the wonderful, dreamlike stories.

From 5 - 8 August and from 12 - 15 August on the Tempelhofer Feld in Berlin.

Theater Anu has been researching poetic theatre forms in public space for over ten years. Founded in Heppenheim, on Hessische Bergstrasse, thecompany has had its headquarters in Berlin since 2007. Under the direction of Bille Behr and Stefan Behr, it performs in parks, squares and special places - such as tunnels or industrial halls - in Germany and Europe in collaboration with numerous artists. Every year, many thousands of visitors experience the sensual and quiet productions of Theater Anu. In this "strange" summer of 2020, Theatr Anu has managed to create corona-compatible adaptations and also new plays within a very short time. A major project was the collaboration with the Bad Hersfeld Festival.

Smashed - Gandini Juggling

3.8.2020  Smashed 2 - this is Smashed. But not the one you know.

This is Smashed. But not the one you know. Gandini Juggling proudly announce SMASHED 2 To been seen at GDIF festival, August 30 + 31.

In Smashed, the manipulation of the forbidden fruit took a sagacious look at the strained relations between seven men and two women, kindly flaying traditional juggling and contemporary circus.

Smashed 2 is the dark art of juggling revisited. Turning the tables on one of the most celebrated contemporary circus pieces of the last decade. 7 women and 2 men. This is a tale of retribution. This is the same but different. Smashed 2 lightly disrupts the rigid conventions of etiquette, dress and body language. The result is a new hybrid of juggling which is performed with meticulous unison and split- second timing. This funny, inventive and characterful work is akin to dance theatre and will challenge your perception of contemporary juggling.

Perfomed on street theatre festivals in UK in 2020, also Smashed 2 will be growing to a full stage play within soon and touring worldwide on stage and street.

10.6.2020  GREC festival in Barcelona will present scenes of 5.100 m/s in 2020

Joan Catalá spent his childhood in a family workshop, surrounded by the smell, sound and coldness of iron. He now turns this material into the centre of a circus, music, dance and theatre-of-objects show that evokes the craft work of artisans. In summer 2020, GREC festival Barcelona presents some scenes of this promising work which will be premiered in January 2021.

mehr...

Because of the special circumstances under which the Grec 2020 Festival is being held, its artists have faced restrictions and obstacles to their work, including lack of time for proper rehearsals and the need for respecting social distancing between performers. These circumstances have affected their creations, but, for all that, the artists are still eager to share the result of their work with audiences, at least to the point they have so far been able to develop it.

Iron is the central element of 5.100 m/s and it is a direct reference to the world of crafts which also adds force to the production’s soundtrack. And that is because the title refers to the speed of sound through metal. This inorganic matter, a heavy material, which can become light, which is hard, but also ductile, is the show's star attraction. A series of characters speak to us, projecting diverse perspectives on a scene in transformation. Some make reference to risk using circus techniques, others evolve with the scene establishing movement-based dialogues and others stroll up and down carrying bars, tubes or metal planks with which they make sounds with their hands or drumsticks, thereby creating an artisan vibraphone on stage, for which various members of Frames Percussion, a Barcelona group dedicated to experimenting with percussion, are largely responsible. All that is accompanied by objects which, during the dialogue between the characters, end up becoming more than simple materials... The action takes place in a box surrounded by the audience, a space halfway between workshop and stage. This is a space of dialogue between human beings, objects and architecture itself, a space for trial and error where crafts people turn their trade into art and model beauty, to the blows of a hammer.

Now at GREC Festival, Barceona audience will see some scenes, we are looking forward to discover the whole work in early January 2021.

The Great Journey - Theater Anu

1.5.2020  SpielBAR CORONA

Many of you had to cancel the summer shows already. We want to encourage you to think theater in totally new ways with us this year.
ANU tries to work with the limitations not against them, because we are sure that there are conceptions that will work even in the current situation!

Not only will it be an economically disaster for all artists if this summer is completely free of performances, but people will have an enormous need of cultural events after weeks of isolation. Many of them will not be able or willing to go on holidays this summer and even places like open-air swimming pools will probable stay closed. This upcoming gap could be our chance to bring culture to new audiences. Let's open SpielBAR Corona

mehr...

Short number of people, distance requirements and hygiene regulations will still leave some scope for us to offer events to the people in your city in 2020.

ANU is now working for over fifteen years with “walk-in theatre installations” as OUR  form of staging. Meaning: The visitor receives different scenes on his own or in small groups  one after another. This structure is easlily to be adapted to different forms of social distancing. SCHATTENWALD and OVID'S DREAM are examples of big shows, but also small plays can be adapted.

Moreover, we have created a brand new ONLINE production called PERPETUUM in ZOOM, which can be received absolutely “safe” in front of the PC or laptop individually or in the closest family circle as a live experience!

The play DREAMER - performed in a drive-in venue -  offers a mixture from the  “save-space” of your own car and yet being physically part of a large audience.

Got curious? Get in contact with us!
We would like to stand by your side as a cultural partner in the exceptional year 2020!

WORK - Cie Claudio Stellato

23.1.2020  WORK: a few days before the premiere at Les Halles des Schaerbeek, Brussels

Only a few days to wait: Feb 5 is the date of the official premiere of Cie Claudio Stellato's latest creation WORK. At Les Halles de Schaerbeek in Brussels. I have seen a prepermiere and I must say: This new WORK is a piece not to miss!

As if they follow an assembly manual of a parallel universe, the characters / craftsmen are working on a site where everyone has their role. They perform precise gestures resulting from hours and hours of routine. Here, physical efforts are pushed to exhaustion which sometimes leads to an absurd result.

Their normality is in our eyes an absurdity. As the materials and the scenography elements transform successively, real paintings start to appear. The spectator witnesses the complicated, illogical and absurd creation of a work of art. If you cannot come to Brussels, check the calendar to find a date good for you! SOme more dates to be confirmed within soon, stay tuned!

Sanddorn Balance - Rigolo Swiss Nouveau Cirque

4.11.2019  Rigolo's Big Bird at christmas circus in Regensburg

Enchanting dance theater, inspiring artistry, touching moments - this is what Rigolo Swiss Nouveau Cirque has stood for decades. Two years ago, it was his founder Mädir Eugster, who brought Regensburg to wonder and dream with his sanddorn balance. Some time ago, Rigolo Swiss Nouveau Cirque surprised international audiences with the show "Wings". An important element of this beguiling world of images is the Big Bird, that flying machine with wings of immense size, which can now be experienced for the first time in Regensburg. No engine moves the big wings of steel and coarse cloth, but the graceful movements of Swiss artist Rahel Merz. Big Bird in Regensburg from 19 December to 5 Jan. Thanks to the Regensburger Weihnachtscircus for the invitation!

8 Songs - Gandini Juggling

30.10.2019  8 songs in Berlin

Only a few days to do before 8 songs by Gandini Juggling will rock Berlin! At famous Chamaeleon theatre! Just 4 days - Nov 11 - 14! Don't miss!

mehr...

Where as part of Gandini Juggling is getting prepared to perform at New York Metropolitan Opera, another part is reahearsing to rock Berlin, at Chamäleon Theater, just for 4 days, from Nov 11 - 14.

In 8 Songs, a series of choreographed vignettes set to eight classic rock ‘n’ roll songs, the Gandini’s return to their roots. A raw and surreal piece, sexy and skilful, each song presents its own atmosphere, its own micro universe. The piece builds crescendo style from solos and duets to a full-cast finale. Meanings are alluded to, with semi-literal references to the songs themselves. Complex patterns will relate the orbits of the coloured objects to each other but the real raison d’être will be the music. The raw and elating power of rock and roll. 8 Songs is a fantastic opportunity for Gandini to do what they do best: creating a brand new show combining skill with spectacle, inviting audiences of all ages into their playful world of movement, mathematics and music.

The CHAMÄLEON stands for contemporary circus like no other venue in Germany. This is an exciting new art form that deliberately blurs the boundaries between different genres, such as acrobatics, dance, music and theatre, in order to create something thrilling and cutting-edge.

Sanddorn Balance - Rigolo Swiss Nouveau Cirque

28.10.2019  Moonrise - Arkadien - Sospiri 3 neue Projekte von Rigolo

With the stage play Wings the generation change was initiated in the house Rigolo. Currently the three Rigolo daughters are working on their own productions, each one different, each one particular: Moonrise, Arcadia, Sospiri. Mädir Eugster and Lena Roth, founders of Rigolo Swiss Nouveau Cirque, are involved as creative leaders in every project.

Lara Jacobs Rigolo is about to open an ART CLUB in New York. In MOONRISE Lara takes up the theme of the 13 moon goddesses that Rigolo employed in the 1990s. Lara was already on tour as a little girl and on stage. It is interesting to see how Rigolos MONDAUFGANG returns to the stage in a new modern version. MOONRISE is fine entertainment experience combining dance, theater, acrobatics, art, music, decor and a theatrical cocktail experience. The guests are abducted by LARA JACOBS RIGOLO into the world of the 13 moon goddesses and their rituals and accompanied by her on a journey to her inner self. As of late October 2019, Brooklyn-Williamsburg NYC, N160 12 Street.

The middle daughter, Nuria Astroga Iglesias, realizes in Switzerland a cultural pasture park with the Rigolo Palace as its centerpiece. In ARKADIEN cultural events take place and wonderful festivals such as weddings and birthdays are celebrated. Also Nuria meets with the Weidenpark a dream she began to dream as a child. Arcadia is a park of willow constructions and water features, with art installations and cultural events. The park is open to the public and invites old and young to observe the plants, to relax and to enjoy cultural experiences. In the center of the park stands the willow pavilion "Palais". For two decades Rigolo toured with the Palais through Switzerland and performed ao. in Zurich on the Werdinsel and on the barracks area, in Basel on the Grün 80 and in St. Gallen in the city park. The opening of the cultural pasture park ARKADIEN is planned for spring / summer 2020.

The youngest daughter of Rigolo's founding couple, Marula Eugster Rigolo, continues Rigolo's earlier productions Wings In My Heart and Sanddorn with her dance theater production SOSPIRI. The theme of the piece, as in Wings In My Heart, is the determination of life and the search for fulfillment. Also at Sospiri the piece flows into the world-famous Sanddorn Balance with the feather and the 13 palm leaf trisps. In the first dance part Sospiri takes over the concept of the piece Sanddorn from the year 1998. The expressive Palmblattrispen form the red thread in the history. In WINGS Marula has shown that she is a charismatic actress. Even as a choreographer she has already established herself in other formations. World premiere SOSPIRI in autumn 2020 at the Lichtensteiger Chössitheater

The extraordinary success story of SANDDORN BALANCE began more than 20 years ago. In 1996, the Swiss theatre producer Mädir Eugster Rigolo created a balancing act for the stage production SANDDORN. The play is set in knee-deep sand; the only props are the withered ribs of date and coconut palm leaves, which Mädir Eugster Rigolo collected from the most beautiful beaches in the world.  This was the birth of SANDDORN BALANCE – one of the most stunning acts the world has ever seen. SANDDORN BALANCE has enchanted countless audiences ever since, irrespective of culture, age or education. The performance can been seen in a variety of shows and circuses, in theatres, museums and opera houses. For many years, Mädir Eugster Rigolo was the only performer. Only a few years ago, the secret of SANDDORN BALANCE was given to some excellent artists who are now presenting exciting moments to audiences all over the world. Among these excellent artists, you will find Mädir's daughters: Lara Jacobs Rigolo, who is performing Sandorn Balance with Cirque du Soleil show Amaluna, and lately also Marula Eugster Rigolo, who performed Sanddorn Balance in Rigolo's stage Wings and now - in Jan 2019 - arrives to the stage of Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain where young artists from all over the world present their arts and acts. Probably is not just a coincidence that the 40th Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain meets the celebrations of Rigolo's 40th anniversary.

With the talents on display primal and emblematic SPRING is set to be a spectacular, transendant and colourful staging, performed to an original score. Featuring virtuosic jugglers and contemporary dancers the piece will take these tangible and visceral art forms into new territories and further establish the relationships between them. Embracing deconstructed rhythms and jubilant patterning - concepts of self referentiality will be visited and the score itself will be taken into the work using text to introduce fragments of narrative. SPRING follows on from the Gandini’s successful forays in ballet and theatre delving deeper into their obsession with juggling as pure choreography. This new large-scale show is a result of their time flirting with various neighbouring art forms, sharing a common core in their rhythms and bringing these cousins together to explore the relationships between them.

Rigolo's Sanddorn Balance is wellknown worldwide for its appearances in cabaret, show, TV and gala events. but we should not forget that Sanddorn Balance was created as scene of a theatre play. More and more, Sanddorn Balance is returning back to its roots and we note a growing distribution in dance and theatre productions, invitations to concerts and exhibitions. One example is Rigolo's participation in the theatre play "Exodus" by Belgian company Théâtre d'un Jour. "Exodus" is invited now to LaMama Theatre in New York.

"Exodus" is a stirring play about migration and the hopelessness that drives people to leave their homeland. Sanddorn Balance shows in Exodus moments of a fragile beauty that changes the perception of reality and reveals the delicate nature of balance and the transience of life.
"Exodus" ist ein aufwühlendes Theaterstück über Migration und die Ausweglosigkeit, die Menschen dazu bewegt, ihre Heimat zu verlassen. Die Sanddorn Balance zeigt in "Exodus" Momente einer fragilen Schönheit, die die Wahrnehmung der Realität verändert und die zarte Natur des Gleichgewichts und der Vergänglichkeit des Lebens offenbart. A disturbing symbol for the current situation of the refugees in front of the "Fortress Europe". After almost 100 performances in Europe, "Exodus" is now invited to New York, appearances there at LaMama November 15 - 18.
