5.8.2020  German premiere of WORK by Claudio Stellato at festival ATOLL Karlsruhe

At the ATOLL festival (Karlsruhe, Germany) Claudio Stellato presents the next stage of his research between body and object as a German premiere: WORK. Nails, wood, paint, a few tools and seemingly trivial, everyday gestures characterize the scene. This is where work is done, no question.

As if they were following assembly instructions of a parallel universe, the characters work in a machinery in which everyone fulfils his or her function. But excessive physical exertion, which can lead to exhaustion, leads to strange results. While the simple and astonishing stage design is changing more and more, the complicated and absurd process of creating a work of art unfolds.

On 25 and 26 September in Karlsruhe ...

The ATOLL Festival takes place for the fifth time this year and is considered one of the trend-setting festivals for contemporary circus in Germany. Although shortened by one day, with less audience, but at a corona-like distance, with slightly fewer artists than last year and largely without circus tents, but with a programme that is certainly worth seeing.

10.2.2020  awarded at MOMIX festival 2020:

Just a few days after the premiere in Les Halles de Schaerbeek / Brussels, the piece WORK was awarded the prize of the MOMIX 2020 Festival Jury on Sunday, February 9th, 2020. Congratulations to Claudio Stellato and his team!

Each year - for more than 25 years - MOMIX plays host to around 40 professional companies from diverse artistic backgrounds, (theatre, dance, music, puppetry, etc.), chosen for their excellence, in content and aesthetic quality, but at the same time for their accessibility to all audiences.

23.1.2020  WORK: a few days before the premiere at Les Halles des Schaerbeek, Brussels

Only a few days to wait: Feb 5 is the date of the official premiere of Cie Claudio Stellato's latest creation WORK. At Les Halles de Schaerbeek in Brussels. I have seen a prepermiere and I must say: This new WORK is a piece not to miss!

As if they follow an assembly manual of a parallel universe, the characters / craftsmen are working on a site where everyone has their role. They perform precise gestures resulting from hours and hours of routine. Here, physical efforts are pushed to exhaustion which sometimes leads to an absurd result.

Their normality is in our eyes an absurdity. As the materials and the scenography elements transform successively, real paintings start to appear. The spectator witnesses the complicated, illogical and absurd creation of a work of art. If you cannot come to Brussels, check the calendar to find a date good for you! SOme more dates to be confirmed within soon, stay tuned!

WORK

the next step of Stellato's research between body and material

Nails, wood, paint, some tools and everyday gestures that seem unimportant, revisited and transformed into a fantastic DIY workshop.

In this universe of the absurd and the strange, bricolage is not treated in its raw form. It is repeated, ritualized, coordinated and detached from its original function in order to bring it closer to the practices of dance, circus, music and visual arts. With his third creation - after L'Autre (2011) and La Cosa (2015), Claudio Stellato gets further into his research between body and material.

Claudio Stellato is a multidisciplinary artist who has been interested for a long time in new relationships between the body and matter. Dancer for different companies, then choreographer. His company Cie Claudio Stellato is based in Brussels. Stellato is an associated artist at the Halles de Schaerbeek in Brussels. He is a jury member of Circus Next.
